About us
Slaughters' Tree Farms was started up as a hobby for Lonnie Slaughter back in the 1980's. He had spent his younger years in the family's grocery store in the small town of Floyd, Virginia but always yearned to be outdoors. He planted a few christmas trees just to see what all there was to the business of growing trees. After a few years, he had found his passion and poured his heart and soul into growing and creating the perfect Christmas trees. His wife took over the grocery store and he began to raise and sell hundreds of Christmas trees and sold them to wholesale customers. After many years of focusing on wholesale only and with the growing interest of families wanting to expreience choosing and cutting their family trees together, he opened his first Choose and Cut farm in Fancy Gap, Virginia. Later, he opened up addtional farms in his hometown of Floyd, Virginia. Today, two farms are still currently running for choose and cut and we are still sending out thousands of wholesale trees.
Anyone who knows Lonnie, knows he is big on quality. Many people have commented over the years how pretty the trees are....well that has came from a lot of blood, sweat and maybe not as many tears because grown men don't cry, right?
Christmas trees generally grow an average of a foot per year. Care includes spreading fertilizer, spraying pesticides (yes, our trees are sprayed for insects because not many customers are fond of bugs in their homes), mowing between trees and trimming branches. Lots of TLC for these trees.
